Jyderup Folk High School is situated in an old castle located near the forest in the beautiful nature of north-west Zealand. Zealand is the biggest island in Denmark, only one hour by train from the capital Copenhagen. You live, eat, sleep and learn at the school and share a room with a roommate. We have a lake in the garden where you can go kayaking, take at swim before you heat up in our sauna, or just enjoy the sundown.
This Folk High School is a small school with only around 50 students. You will for sure get to know everybody including the teachers and probably make new friends forever.
Activities and courses
Jyderup Folk High School offers a unique opportunity to challenge yourself with new tasks and subjects. We offer six main courses that you can apply for: Live Music, Electronic Music, Environmental Politics/Permaculture – a course we call it Green Guerilla, Danish Language and Culture, Fine Arts and Nordic Outdoor Life. Besides these subjects, we provide workshops and side subjects such as creative writing, art, guitar lessons, basic electronic music, piano lessons, singing lessons, literature, film, band practice, graffiti, cultural entrepreneurship, art exhibition curation, weaving and more.
Jyderup Folk High School offers a creative environment, and we regularly arrange interdisciplinary projects and collaborations. Every morning we sing together at our morning assembly, and once a week we have lectures or concerts about various topics such as free jazz, history, traditional folk music, politics, experimental electronic music and much more.
Please note, that we are a Danish Folk High School and most of the teaching will be with Danish as the primary language.
